Wednesday afternoon, 24 May was set for an afternoon`s practice. Then on the following Saturday afternoon a selection and trial game had been planned. Club secretary, W. E. Tink and E. Howe had selected teams "A "and "B " for the trial. Practically every man nominated became a long serving and active exponent of the rugby code in Dubbo. They were: "A"s: S. McVicar, G. Taylor, L. Cameron, J. Hives, Carroll, Crouch, Neil Hives, E. B. Wooding, G. King, W. Mack, T. Baird, O`Meara, G. Rich, C. Mack, E. Brownlow, R. Brownlow. The "B" team comprised P. Frawley, S. Murray, Tink, M. Cronin, N. Muller, O`Connor, T. H. Tourle, Dawson, J. Murray, Alf Wheeler, Elliott, C. Frawley, O. Smith, Art Wheeler, H. Heane, A. Brownlow.
Despite their firm plans, the first local match between the Newtown Club and the Ormondes on Saturday 5 July must have disappointed the managers of both clubs. According to a game report "very few of the selected players" put in an appearance. Substitutes were urgently sought and a match eventuated. Ironically, an entertaining spectacle eventuated and the game was keenly contested. Newtown won by 9 points to 6.
A second match between Ormonde and Newtown teams on the Oval on Saturday, 22 July was pleasing to all concerned. In a fast, exciting encounter, the teams played a 3 all draw.
The players were: Ormondes: back, P. Frawley; three-quarters, J. Hives, W. Wilkins, G. Taylor; five-eighths, James Murray, W.Hives; half, N. Hives; forwards, Craig, K. Wilkins, Allan, James, C. Frawley, Parkes. Newtown: back, W.Behan; three-quarters, Tourle, Cronin, Doyle; five-eighth, O`Connor; half, Sevill; forwards, Wheeler, Wooding, Rich, Heane, Brownlow, Tink, Eastcott, Coatsworth. Stalwart, E. Howe was the central umpire and C. Taylor and T. Kidston the line umpires.
